Acton House

Acton House was built by convict labour in the 1830s for William Rumney and his family who emigrated from London in the Berwick in 1823.

Rumney was granted and acquired substantial land tracts east of Hobart amounting to some 3000 acres, including foothills of the mountain that still bears his name. The farm was primarily involved in wool production, and the old shearing shed still stands testament to times gone by.

"Acton" - Prestigious Georgian Estate
Homestead with two furnished sandstone cottages

200 years ago only the landed gentry could own this property. Now on the market for the first time in twenty years. Acton can be your dream home and provide you with a truly unique lifestyle.

“Acton House” is a convict built sandstone Georgian home that faces east with magnificent views across Seven Mile Beach and Fredric Henry Bay.

Built by William Rumney after whom Mt Rumney is named. Acton House is the original home in what is now Acton Park. With its large landscaped gardens, pond with a resident family of geese and superbly restored interior Acton House is truly one of the most desirable properties in Hobart.

Two identical sandstone cottages were constructed on either side and are equidistant from the main house, giving the entire accommodation precinct a high degree of symmetry.  These cottages are now used for tourist accommodation.

Imagine living on 15 acres of parkland just 20 minutes from Hobart with only 4 traffic lights between you and the centre of the city.
